Encrypt your wallet keys and store everything

Its time to encrypt your wallet recovery phrase and store everything safely

You will need:

  • Open "Text Editor" and start a new document. In this document we will write down your wallet recovery phrase.

  • Save it as "Wallet Recovery" in the documents folder

  • Now search for and open "Kleopatra"

  • When Kleopatra opens go to "File" and select "New Key Pair"

  • Select "Create a personal OpenPGP key pair"

  • Enter your name followed by (PGP)

  • Enter your email address

  • Click "Advanced Settings"

  • Ensure your settings are the same as below and select "OK"

  • Before you click create we need to create a secure password in Lastpass

  • Go to Lastpass and select "Generate Secure Password"

  • Generate a password with the below settings and copy this password to your clipboard

  • Open Lastpass again, open your vault and click the + symbol in the bottom right corner of the screen

  • Select "Secure Note"

  • Name this the same as the key pair we are about to create and save

  • Copy password to clipboard again

  • Go back to Kleopatra and select "create"

  • You will be prompted to enter a password, enter the password you just created and continue

  • Once keys have been created select "Finish"

  • Select "Sign/Encrypt" to encrypt a file

  • Select the "Wallet Recovery" file you made earlier

  • Select "Sign/Encrypt"

  • Select "Finish"

  • Your wallet recovery phrase is now encrypted

  • Your new encrypted file will end with ".gpg"

  • Now go back to kleopatra, right click your keys and select "Export Secret Keys"

  • Export to "Documents" folder and you will see your PGPPrivatekey.asc file

  • You can now store these files in their intended places

Once saved you should now have:

  1. Master password

  2. Copy of master password on encrypted drive (this is a backup in case you lose your Yubikey)

  3. PGP password in Lastpass

  4. PGP private key on encrypted drive

  5. Non encrypted wallet recovery phrase on encrypted drive

  6. An encrypted backup of your wallet recovery phrase

That's it! you have now securely stored your wallet recovery phrase. Make sure everything is saved before you close your system. Whenever you access the Apricorn Aegis USB you should only do it in your secure working environment, we will cover this next.
