Setup Yubikey

We will now Setup your "salt" password and use that to create a master password

You will need:

Make sure this is all executed in your secure Linux environment created in the last tutorial

Create Master password

  • Download Yubikey Manager AppImage HERE and select "save file"

  • Select files from left side of desktop

  • Navigate to "Downloads"

  • Right click the file you just downloaded and select "Properties"

  • Select "Permissions" and tick the "Allow executing file as program" box

  • Insert your Yubikey into your PC

  • Now double click "Yubikey-manager" and the program will open

  • Once Yubikey manager loads select "OTP" from the "Applications" menu

  • Select "Configure" tab on "Long Touch (Slot2)"

  • Select "Static Password"

  • Tick the "Allow any character" box

  • Click "Generate" until you find a password you are happy with, this one looks good

  • Once you have your password hit "Finish" to save it to your Yubikey

  • Now we can open the text editor and create our finished master password

  • Open the text editor by clicking the 9 dots in the bottom left of the screen and searching "text editor"

  • You now need to create a prefix to you master password using 8 digits and 2 proper nouns

  • For our example we will use japan12345678tokyo type your password into the text editor

  • Once you have typed your password use the "Long Touch" feature to input the rest of your master password by holding the contacts on the Yubikey for at least 3 seconds

  • You should end up with a password similar to this

  • You can now save this for use later by clicking save and name it "Master Password" in the "Documents" folder
